Pokémon Go In The Gardens

I've started playing Pokémon Go as well!

Unfortunately, my area is very rural and there isn't much around here. Mostly Pidgies and Rattatas. There's a few gyms and pokéstops downtown and along the main highway, but that's too far for me to venture out on foot. It's about a 15-20 minute drive down there and I'm too lazy. I love this game, but I love staying home in my PJs more. Therefore, I'm only level 11 and still haven't caught a Pikachu!

Last weekend I decided to venture off on my own to a Pokémon Go safari hosted by Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, FL. The park is a national historic landmark, contemplative garden, and bird sanctuary and has a beautiful "singing tower" located on a hill called Iron Mauntain, which is one of the highest points in Florida. The tower is also a Pokémon gym.

The park has over 30 pokéstops and 4 gyms throughout, so it's the perfect place to play. The weather was great, even though it's the Florida summer. I had been there one time a few years back and had been wanting to visit again. They were offering a discount on tickets for their Pokémon Go event, so this was my chance! Unfortunately, when I got there, the servers were down, so I just walked around and enjoyed the scenery for the first 2 hours or so.

A lot of people got frustrated and left upon getting a refund, but I'm glad that I stayed.

I decided to wear a coordinate inspired by Lyra from the Soulsilver/Heartgold games. I heard one girl tell another girl that I looked "like an NPC". lol

It was the only Pokémkon game that I've played before Go. I'm not a huge fan of the video games, but I used to be a die hard fan of the show growing up, so Pokémon has always been very nostalgic to me.

This was a super casual coord for an outdoor event, so no wig and no contact lenses since I wanted to be comfortable. And yes, I dare to wear Converse high tops with lolita. ;p

Guess which team I chose!

Outfit rundown:
~Skirt: handmade by me
~Satchel: Carlos Santana
~Shoes: Converse
~Pikachu plushie: Pokémon Center
~Hat/ Cutsew: Thrifted
~Socks/ jewelry: off brand

I made my phone case into a pokédex too. I like when my phone case matches my coord. It is just a clear case that I can put any picture I want in. Now I can have matching cases for all of my coords. :D

I usually don't use AR mode in the game in order to save on data and battery, but the gardens were the perfect setting for taking pictures of wild Pokémon.

Next month we'll be having a Pokémon Go lolita picnic and I'll be making pokéball macarons to share with everyone. It'll be in the city, so I'm hoping to catch some new pokémon. Gotta get that pokédex completed!

This is my team thus far.

Lifestyle Lolita Challenge- Day 2

It's day 2 of the lifestyle Lolita challenge! 363 more days to go. @_@

Today's challenge is...

I live in a very small town, so there weren't many museums that came to mind. I decided to include the whole county, which consists of 3 small towns, and I discovered that there are quite a few museums here. Most of them about local history and the military.

I want to start closer to home and work my way further away.

1. Avon Park Depot Museum "Your ticket to the past."

The museum used to be an old train station. Inside there are exhibits that depict life in the city in the 1800s, furniture from the city's founders' home included. There is an old train car outside and you can dine inside and pretend that you're taking a trip in a train back in the 19th century.

2. SFSC Museum of Florida Art and Culture

3. The Children's Museum of the Highlands
"The Children's Museum of the Highlands purpose is to provide a safe area for children to learn and explore. "

4. Military Sea Services Museum

Preserves and maintains the customs and traditions of the three military sea services

5. Lake Placid Historical Society

Like many small towns, Lake Placid has a rich history and the Lake Placid Historical Society is proud to share it with you. Located in the old Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Depot, the museum showcases many exhibits from Lake Placid and other areas from days gone by. Photos, documents, railroad equipment and other historic items are displayed in unique surroundings.
In addition to the indoor collection, the museum is home to an antique caboose, a 1929 steam engine and Lake Placid's antique jail from the 1920s.

6. Toby The Clown Foundation, inc

This place actually teaches people "the art of clowning". They also have a small museum dedicated to American Clowns. At last count, more than 700 significant pieces of clown memorabilia can be found within the walls of Toby’s American Clown Museum and School.

It's 2016. Happy new year!

I feel that I've neglected this blog for the past year, so I want to revive it. I've been posting mostly on Tumblr now since I'm on a tablet and it's so easy to post there. My Tumblr is www.bisko-chan.tumblr.com if you would like to check it out.
I do miss being able to format my posts. That's why I've chosen to come back here for the 365 Lifestyle Lolita Challenge.

Today's prompt is...

One of my wardrobe goals for this year is to make some more main pieces that I can wear in more toned down, casual coordinates. I've been wanting a solid pink JSK that I can wear casually, but that I can also dress up for a more elaborate coordinate. Something like BTSSB's "Sheryl Lacy JSK II".

Another goal for 2016 is to make more gothic pieces. I rarely wear gothic lolita because I don't have many pieces that work for that substyle, but I've always loved it and wished that I could wear it more often. I want to be on the look out for fabrics that have that gothic feel, but stay away from skulls, bats, and Halloween prints.
Some examples of fabrics that I could work with:

Most of these are from fabric.com. I recently ordered some fabric from them and I was very satisfied with their services, so I might order some of these from them little by little. I especially like that black one with the blue and teal crosses and roses. It has a sweet vibe to it too. Bittersweet, maybe? lol

My last goal is to make some bloomers. Maybe even try to make some knickerbocker shorts and vest combo and try my hand at wearing ouji style at least once.

Oh, and I'd like to finish making that white Peter Pan collar blouse with puff sleeves some time soon. I just have to sew the collar on and add the buttons, but just thinking about it gives me nightmares XD Why are blouses so complicated to make? OTL

I'm finally doing another Lolita blog carnival post!

Just recently, my mom and I planted a small gardenia bush in our backyard and yesterday the first flower finally bloomed, so keeping with this week's theme, I decided to put together a coordinate inspired by the gardenia flower.

JSK: Angelic Pretty (Princess Party)
Blouse: BodyLine (L301)
Shoes: BodyLine (SHOES274)

Now, if only I could find some gardenia-scented perfume...

Some more flower-inspired coordinates:
~ Froufrous
~ Pastel Peggy
~ Courtly Dreams of Burgher

It's February already! This year is going by fast!
I wasn't able to post these past 2 months. I've been so busy!
Let's see... Update:
~ I quit my job at the beginning of January and hopped right into a new one. I love my new job as a nurse!
I haven't worn lolita AT All in 2015, which makes me a little sad because one of my New Years resolutions was to wear more lolita in 2015. :(
Fortunately, there are some cool meets coming up in February and March and I'm ecstatic about them.

One of them is the Florida Strawberry Festival which I missed last year. I'm so happy to be able to go this year. It seemed like so much fun.
Here's a little sneak peak of my coord.

I might change the socks out for lace ankle socks and I might not wear the cardigan depending on how the weather is that day. Some of the girls that went last year said that it was really hot, so we'll see...

In March we'll be having tea at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Orlando and I put together yet another OTT Classic coord. This time it's really pink and girly.

I'd seen this fabric at the store before and always loved it, but it was so expensive! I was finally able to get it on sale and I was so excited for this event that I ran home and made the skirt right away.

I will not be sharing favorites from December and January this time around. Honestly, I've been so busy that I've lost track of them. D:
I'm just going to mention, I got some awesome Angelic Pretty accessories for Christmas from a very special lolita Santa. I participated in the Lolita Tips gift exchange and that's what I received. My first brand pieces! I'm so happyyyyyyy!

I sent my partner a handmade flower crown and brooch in autumn colors (her favorite colors), some classic pearl jewelry, and some ballet-themed 3D stickers, since she mentioned that she likes ballet and crafting.

Here are my outfits from the past 2 months:

What I wore for our winter ILD tea party on 12/6/14.
~JSK, headbow, kanzashi hair clip: handmade by me

~Blouse: H&M

~Cardigan: Thrifted (Worthington)

~Shoes: BodyLine

~Bow hair clips, socks, bag, parasol: Off brand

~Jewelry: Beya/ Eve’s Addiction/ Forever 21/ off brand

~Wig: Rockstar Wigs- Farrah (Summer version) in Bombshell

We had afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian resort at Disney World. It was so much fun and there were so many lolitas there. Everybody looked fabulous!
I thought of wearing something Christmas-themed at first, but then I changed my mind because it wasn’t a specifically Christmas-themed meetup and I felt that a more classic coord would suit the event better. You can read more about this event and see more pictures here.

This week I looked back at the lolita events that I attended in 2014. 2014 was the year of the meetups for me. I finally got brave and started attending meets. I am so glad that I decided to take this leap. I've already met so many wonderful frilly people!
By far the best one of the events that I attended in 2014 was the Winter International Lolita Day tea party at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort in Orlando. The event was a statewide event hosted by Dream Fantasy Theatre, a local lolita organization hosted by some of the lolitas in my local community. The venue was magical and so many lolitas attended not only from Florida, but statewide.

It was a weekend-long event, but unfortunately I was only able to attend the tea party because I had to work the day after and I'm a poor nursing student and can't afford to stay at a Disney resort. lol Hopefully that'll change next year when I get my RN.

There will be another tea party event this coming Summer International Lolita Day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see if I can attend. I saw a sneak peak of the venue and it's amazing!

What was your favorite event of 2014?

Since it's already 2015, this week's challenge is about looking back at 2014 and reflecting on how I've changed in lolita.
I didn't see a huge change in my aesthetic when it comes to coordinating outfits, although I did see myself leaning more and more towards OTT Classic coords. I still like wearing all the substyles and trying different things, but I feel like OTT Classic is the easiest for me to pull off. Maybe I'm getting old and I want to try more mature looks?

I also got really brave this past year and started attending meetups (Finally! After lurking in the online community for 4 years. lol)! I attended a couple casual meets and a couple of larger tea parties. One of them for Halloween. The other for Winter International Lolita Day. It was the first time that I was able to celebrate ILD and it was so much fun and OMG there were so many lolitas there! I've always been very introverted, so I thought I wouldn't fit in at meets, but I've been doing great. I hope I can make it to the next ILD tea party that is being planned for June.

2014 was a very productive year for me and I'm hoping that 2015 will be as well.

How have your lolita style changed this past year?

November has been a busy month for me preparing to begin year 2 of nursing school. I took my board exam at the beginning of the month and I'm proud to say that I am now a licensed practical nurse. I've achieved my second goal that I set for myself, now 2 more to go! Next is registered nurse and bachelors degree after that.
I was able to take pictures of some of the outfits that I wore, but editing them took me a little while, so I've decided that instead of posting each ootd on its own, I like the idea of making a large post once a month showcasing all of the outfits I wore that month.

These are the outfits that I wore in November:

1) 11/10/14 OOTD to go take my nursing board exam.

Dress, tights, headband, satchel: Forever 21
Boots: Converse
Coat: New Look
Jewelry: off brand, forever 21, Beya

I was feeling a little punky that day, although I'm glad I didn't wear a lot of layers or accessories. They made me take everything off at the testing site and put it in a locker. I guess they think people will write little cheat notes or formulas on their jewelry or something. lol
The test was super nerve wrecking, but I passed! Ready for round 2 next year.

2) OOTD 11/11/14

Dress: Band Of Gypsies
Beret: off brand
Satchel, tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Dollhouse
Rose hair clips: H&M
Jewelry: forever 21/ off brand/ Claire's/ Eve's Addiction

This dress reminds me of Gyaru fashion. Maybe I'll wear it again with my long curly milk tea wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs some other time. When the weather warms up again with simple black heels. And no glasses, of course.

3) OOTD 11/12/14 to go out to dinner with my family.

Jumper: Espresso
Blazer: Forever 21
Shoes: Qpid
Satchel: Forever 21
Rose hair clips: off brand
Jewelry: off brand/ Forever 21/ Beya

The days had been warmer, but at night got a little chilly, so I wore a blazer because the jumpsuit has a halter top. I also felt like wearing my hair in a different style, so I wore one of my clip on ponytails in a bun and side swept bangs.

And suddenly it got really cold in florida

4) Coordinate of the day 11/14/14

Skirt, head bow, heart hair clip: handmade by me
Blouse: Thrifted (Canyon River Blues)
Socks, satchel: Forever 21
Shoes: Dollhouse
Bow hair clips, coat: H&M
Jewelry: handmade by me/ off brand/ Beya
Wig: Gothic Lolita Wigs "Straight Bob"- blond

This was my first time in a very long time wearing lolita out by myself.
This year, I am participating in the Lolita Tips Gift Exchange that is being held through TUMBLR. (I'll post pictures of what I sent and what I receive in December whenever I get my gift). I got my partner info and figured out what I wanted to send her, so I had to go buy a few things and materials. I wanted to wear a really casual coordinate, but the weather was cold and I really wanted to wear my new bear coat. It's so furry and fluffy and awesome. Totally worth the big bucks I payed for it (I'm such a cheapskate. This was about half of what brand lolita clothing costs and yet I still feel awful for paying so much for a coat, but the bear ears! I couldn't say no. No wonder I still don't own any brand. lol). So I ended up coordinating a quick last minute sweet lolita coord.
Going out in lolita by myself again after almost a year felt kind of strange. I had gotten used to it, but since it had been so long, it felt kind of new to me again. I felt a little self conscious at first, but I'm glad I got used to it after a few hours. No one said anything, or looked at me... Or at least I didn't notice. That's a good thing. Except for little children. They always stare, but that's ok. I kind of like the attention I attract. lol
Oh, and this was also the first time I wore this wig since I got it a few months back. Compared to the cheaper one I had before, this one is amazing. The only thing is, I wanted it to be a shorter bob like I used to have, and this bob is a bit long in my opinion. I like how it frames my face, but I originally ordered the "Summer Bob" in blond from GLW (which is shorter in the front) and for some reason I received the "Straight Bob", which they no longer sell on the site. I don't know if it was a mistake by GLW, or if I ordered the wrong style. Still I decided to keep it because I didn't want to go through costumer service and have to send the wig back and all that. don't get me wrong, GLW's costumer service is great, but I just felt like keeping the wig. It's still a bob cut and it's beautiful. I don't want to cut it because it's cut at an angle and I think I'd ruin it if I tried to shorten it.

And then it got warm again.

5) OOTD 11/17/14

Salopette: Denim Co.
Blouse: Forever 21
Shoes: Montreal
Satchel, bow hair clip: Claire's
Socks: off brand
Jewelry: Beya/ Forever 21/ Claire's/ off brand

I wore this to school orientation. I was going for a sweet lolita-inspired look. I love this salopette, but OMG I just realized its sooooooo short. lol like, I knew it was short, but it's shorter than I thought. I hadn't worn it for a while and I wore lolita quite a bit back in October so I must've gotten used to wearing longer skirts. Either way, I felt cute, and that's all that matters. :) I'm glad I always wear bike shorts under skirts, though. No matter the length.

And then it got cold again. Florida, make up your mind already!

6) OOTD 11/18/14

Dress: W118 By Walter Baker
Coat, bow hair clips: H&M
Boots: SODA
Tights: Target
Scarf: Handmade by my grandma
Satchel: Forever 21
Jewelry: Forever 21/off brand/ Eve's Addiction

And now, on to something I've been wanting to incorporate into my blog for some time. I've seen a lot of bloggers do this and I think it's fun and will make me reflect on the positive things that happened the past month and what I liked the most about it. Be it an event, or something I bought or saw or learned or did. Anything! So here it is.

This month I bought quite a few things mostly for friends and family rather than for myself. I'm happy to say that I'm done with Christmas gifts early this year. Now just waiting for everything to come in the mail so I can start wrapping.
This year I'll be spending Christmas by myself because my family is going to South America to join family members for the holidays. I won't be going because I have to go to school and work. That leads me to my first favorite:

A mini Christmas tree!

It's only 24" and I made some little Christmas flower ornaments and got the tiny icicle ornaments at Michael's. They're currently having a 50% off christmas sale. Since the tree is so small, regular garland overpowered it, so I found this fuzzy yarn that reminded me of snow, so I draped that around a bit. It's pre-lit in white, and for the tree topper, I found this little red Cardinal bird clip at the dollar store that works perfectly with the theme and color palette. The little bird detects motion and chirps every time you walk past by it. It's a bit annoying, but I'll tried to put the tree where there won't be much motion to detect. Hopefully my cat won't pounce on it when she hears the chirping. So far so good.

Another favorite is my white faux fur bear coat. It was a bit expensive, but so worth it. I have been getting a lot of wear out of it already and I know I'll be wearing it a lot during the cold weather season.

And of course, this month's ultimate favorite was learning that I passed my boards and I'm now a licensed practical nurse!

This week's challenge was to create a coord based on royalty/a royal person. Because when you think about lolita fashion you instantly think of Marie Antoinette, I figured that a lot of coords by other members of the LBC might've been based on her. I wanted to base my coord on a modern day royal.

When my parents came back from their trip to England this past spring, they brought back a mug that they found at a thrift store there. It is white and purple and gold, and the perfect shape for drinking out of, and on it, a picture of queen Elizabeth II and the words "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 2012".

This inspired me to create a coordinate based on her.

I used a picture of her younger self as inspiration for this coordinate. When I saw it, I knew I wanted to incorporate one of the beautiful sashes by Truly Darling Boutique. I'm not a huge fan of wearing these, but after creating this coordinate, I think I might make one for myself. JSK is Angelic Pretty. I decided to go without a blouse and add the long fingerless gloves to recreate the silhouette of the dress in the picture. Finally, a corgi dog-shaped bag with the English flag to symbolize her country and her iconic pet corgis.

Did you know? The Queen has always been very fond of this breed and has owned over 30 corgis during her reign. Actually, corgis are not the only dogs she owns. In 2007, Queen Elizabeth II had five corgis: Monty, Emma, Linnet, Willow and Holly; five cocker spaniels: Bisto, Oxo, Flash, Spick, and Span; and four dorgis (dachshund-corgi crossbreeds): Cider, Berry, Vulcan and Candy.

I can't believe it's November already!
I think I should start taking pictures for my 2015 wardrobe post. My lolita wardrobe did grow a bit since last time I did a wardrobe post back in... 2013 I think? This year I didn't do it because it's just so much work. So many pictures to take. I want to start early this time so I can make a post in January.

On to current times, here is what I wore on the first of November.

Sweater dress: Tex by Max Azria
Boots: sbicca
Socks: off brand
Satchel: Forever 21
Beret: off brand
Jewelry: Beya/ Forever 21/ off brand
Wig: Cosplay Wigs USA

The weather suddenly got chilly, so I was happy to wear a more wintery outfit and I had the opportunity to get my winter boots out of the closet for the first time in forever.
Also I think I got my first cat call ever. lol Some guy in the street started shouting at me as I was entering a store. He said "you look good in pink!" What does he know? As far as I know, that's the only color he's ever seen me in. Unless he was somebody I'd met before and didn't recognize. Could be possible in this small town...

Back in October, I had the opportunity to wear halloween-themed lolita not one, but twice!

The first was more formal. It was for a Halloween-themed high tea lolita meet.

Skirt: Handmade by me
Blouse: Canyon River Blues (thrifted)
Shoes: JUMP For The People
Chocolate Purse: Decca C. (It smells like chocolate!)
Jewelry and Accessories: off brand, handmade by me, H&M, Forever 21
Wig: Gothic Lolita Wigs- Classic wavy dark brown mix

We got together at a tea room and had high tea and exchanged candy. I made some goody bags to give out.

The whole exchange was a bit chaotic and disorganized, but it was fun nonetheless, and everyone looked wonderful. The tea service was ok, but I've had better experiences at other tea rooms before. My comm frequently meets at this place for high tea and I'd definitely come back here to join, but it's not a place I'd visit frequently on my own.

On the 31 I was on door duty, so I decided to wear my tiger ears and tail and paint my face.

JSK: handmade by me

Blouse, purse: H&M

Shoes: Doll House

Jewelry: Beya/ Forever 21
Wig: off brand

This was the first time in years that we've celebrated Halloween on Halloween. Usually trick-or-treating is scheduled for the weekend before Halloween where I live, but since it was on a Friday this year, we got to celebrate it on the actual day.
I only wore this for a few hours and there weren't too many trick-or-treaters this year (Even less than last year!), but it was still fun to dress up.
My parents went to a costume party that night and I was in charge of makeup. They went as a "day of the dead" bride and groom.

I made my mom's flower crown, veil, and bouquet.

And finally, on October 28 I decided to try wearing classic lolita again in an autumn themed red, black, and cream coordinate.

JSK, Flower crown, brooch: Handmade by me

Blouse: H&m
Satchel: Forever 21

Shoes: Crocks

Socks: Off brand

Jewelry: Beya, Bijou Brigitte, Eve’s Addiction, off brand

Wig: Gothic Lolita Wigs- Long Curly Lolita in black

I wish I'd had cream Socks. I would've worn black shoes instead of those cream ones with black socks. I feel so bad because just a week or 2 before this I had seen the perfect cream ankle socks and tights at Forever 21 and I passed on buying them because I almost never wear cream and I thought I'd never need them. -_- If I find them again next time I visit Forever 21, I'll definitely go ahead and buy some cream socks. Now I'm sure that if I did have them, I'd wear this cream blouse more often. It's so pretty! It's shear and made of lace and has pretty puff sleeves with cute scallop edges. I'd definitely wear it more often if it were white.

That concludes my recent outfits. I'm about to start school again on the 24, so I might not be able to dress up as much for quite some time. I hope that I'll be able to squeeze in an outfit here and there. I'll definitely try to keep up with the Lolita Blog Carnival if I can.
